Although 2019 is swiftly approaching, there are still plenty of events for all ages to enjoy in Durham before the end of the year. Folks tall and small can tell Santa exactly what’s on their Christmas lists, while holiday parties, seasonal performances, and cultural celebrations abound in the final days of December.

1. Sledding, snow, and Santa: explore the Durham Holiday Parade and Fun Fest
Find a spot along the Durham Holiday Parade route in Downtown Durham on December 8. Bands, vendors, local mascots, and Santa will make appearances as the highlights of the evening. Later, go to the American Tobacco Campus at 1pm for Fun Fest. Delight in snow sledding, an arts and crafts area, community care corner, and holiday vendors.
2. All aboard! Take a holiday ride at the Museum of Life + Science
The entire month of December is filled with opportunities for the whole family to enjoy the final days of the year at one of Durham's most intriguing attractions. The 41st Annual Santa Train experience is complete with a skate-in-your-socks “ice” skating rink, hot chocolate, face painting, crafts, and of course – a moonlit train ride to the North Pole to greet Santa.
3. Relive one of the most famous Christmas stories in the world...
...as you take in 'The Triangle's greatest holiday performance' Ira David Wood III’s A Christmas Carol, which will show at DPAC from December 12–16.
4. Experience the spirit of the season with youthful thespians
Enjoy a soulful celebration of singers, dancers, and musicians at a performance of Durham’s Black Nativity at Hillside High School from December 14–16.
5. Walk in a winter wonderland...
...at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens Winter Wonderland Festival on December 9. Winter-inspired crafts, storytelling, cookie decorating, and cultural activities from around the world mean an international experience for the whole family! Enjoy sweet treats and festive music with Snowdrop, the Gardens' snowperson. Register soon – the event fills quickly!
6. Find the flavors and wares of the season
Stop by the Durham Farmers' Market, Durham Roots Farmers’ Market, or South Durham Farmers' Market to find inspiration and seasonal ingredients for your holiday menu, or attend Pinhook's free Durham Bazaar Holiday Market on December 9 to eat pizza, dance to a live DJ, and find trinkets to spruce up your holiday table.
7. Brush up on your entertaining skills...

8. Ring in the new year in style
New Year’s Eve is cause for celebration around the Bull City, and there are plenty of events to welcome the new year. Cut up the dance floor at Dance Blues Friday, belt out your favorite new year's tunes at West 94th St. Pub Karaoke, don your best dress for a performance of The Nutcracker at DPAC, or enjoy dinner, drinks, and dancing the New Year’s Eve Gala hosted by the Beta Theta Lamda Education Foundation at the Hilton Durham.
