Overview
Hayti Heritage Center is a cultural and educational venue that houses a community room, two classrooms, a dance studio, the Lyda Moore Merrick Gallery, and the historic 400-seat performance hall. The structure was originally St. Joseph’s Church, established in 1891 by Edian Markham, a former slave. Stained glass windows and other remnants of the church add to the beauty of this space, which features speakers, artists, and entertainers from around the country and the world.

Simply beautiful and highly engaging. The Hayti is the epitome of history and fellowship. The foundation provides outreach, entertainment, and the story of Black excellence in Durham and beyond. Last evening, the Branford Marsalis Quartet performance was one for the books. A walk through the history of jazz and the intersection of giants, coupled with his protégés from North Carolina Central University. For jazz enthusiasts, it does not get any better.
Thank you, Hayti, for a spellbinding evening of jazz at its best! ❤️ -
Great community gathering venue for all family members. -
Another wonderful experience listening to Whitney Houston classics. Only complaint were people talking, making noise, and camera lights/flashes but overall the experience was enjoyable and I look forward to going to more concerts! 🎻🎵🎶🕯 -
It was great! I will go again. The reason for a 4 rating is the musicians lights on the music stands were blinding and did not make a good ambiance night. The music was great. -
The tribute to Whitney Houston by the Candlelight Concert was amazing. These musicians were in an intimate arena of candles that set a beautiful tone of memories of several eras of Whitney! I hope to see more of these events as they come to this area! Thank you for the experience and for allowing Hayti Heritage Center to host in our Bull City! Again, thank you !
