We really enjoyed the weekend brunch at the hotel. It was easy to make reservations and find parking near the hotel. The food was outstanding! I had the Farmer's Omelet and my friend had the Guac Toast. Everything was fresh and delicious and the portions were huge. Our server was also attentive and provided wonderful service to our table, in spite of a full restaurant. Will absolutely recommend and hope to come back soon! -
I can only speak to the cafe in the lobby. The aesthetic is nice. The music is way too loud for this to be a space for people to do work or even hold a conversation. The employees at the bar…exist. They weren’t rude but they weren’t very hospitable. They were very chatty with one another about their own personal business for many to hear. I personally didn’t like the drink I ordered. It was also assumed that I wanted my drink warm (that’s on me for not clarifying but it would have been nice to have been asked). The server who brought out my food looked like she was having the worst day ever. She just seemed very sad. The food was simply ok. I wouldn’t come back unless it was for an event. -
Lovely hotel. Very cozy lobby! Such a fun hip spot to hang out. I have to admit that the food is not as wonderful over the last few years. In years past it was really delicious, but it seems they put less emphasis now on their food. Still one of my favorite spots to hang out, but I come more for the atmosphere than for delicious food. -
First, I will say that the door and check in staff was excellent and attentive, to bad things ended there!
Room was so so — but when we booked we saw the full service list and thought it would be great to stay somewhere that didn’t require us leaving the hotel except to go to the concert we were attending.
The dining room that appeared nice was essentially “self serve” requiring one to order and transport their own drinks plus order meals at the bar and be given a table number card for food delivery. Not exactly the experience one would expect and frankly deserve at a hotel of this advertised standard and price point. When food was delivered it was by a staff member that was non uniformed wearing raggedy khakis and an untucked shirt and sneakers, again substandard for this type of establishment.
The elevator was non functional so it required guests to go wind through some staff only areas to reach a housekeeping/freight elevator. Less than appealing to share hallways with mop buckets and housekeeping carts.
Parking is OFF SITE and noted on the website — please note that our experience with multiple very aggressive “panhandlers” left us feeling uncomfortable and less than safe when walking to and from the parking area. It’s also a shame that they have discontinued the valet service that was previously offered that would certainly mitigate the panhandler issues.
All in all — as I told the front desk person upon check out. “I don’t know who should be more embarrassed the hotel for taking my money or me for giving it to them” -
Perfect venue for visiting Durham. Close to downtown restaurants.
My only complaint would be the coffee area, to many "breakfast " meetings and solo computer users taking up a lot of large tables so not enough room for residents to get a table, one area was all reserved but we sat there as it was the only way we could get somewhere suitable. The roof top bar was well stocked and welcoming.
