Hit Your Trip to Durham Out of the Park

Posted by DCVB Staff on Apr 27, 2018 3:43:12 PM

The devout baseball fans among us know that with the crack of the bat, a true homer leaves home plate and travels more than 500 feet. Magical moments like those are the ones fans head out to the ballpark to see, but at the ACC Baseball Championship FanFest this year in Durham, the opportunities to create unforgettable experiences with family and friends don’t have to exist solely within the stadium.

Here are just a few ways you can make your ACC FanFest weekend a home run – all within striking distance of the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Running with the Bulls is overrated – biking is better!

The American Tobacco trail entrance is just outside of the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, with multiple bike sharing options available to families who want to cruise on winding paths as a group. Pull over anywhere for photos with your collegiate gear and baseball caps, enhanced by a beautiful natural backdrop.

Get a taste of the good stuff without having to leave the building.

The Durham Bulls are the only US minor league team to have their own brewery in their own ballpark. Bull Durham Beer Company relishes in their mission to combine “two Durham loves, the Bulls and craft beer.” Luckily for you, your ticket gets you a front row seat to benefit from their frothy innovation.

When your family is in need of a seventh-inning stretch… with some scenery.

There’s no better place to stretch those limbs than to kick back in a couple of rocking chairs or a hammock at the American Tobacco Campus between games. Waist-height chess pieces on a human-sized chess board offer a chance for friendly competition, and the lawn north of the Lucky Strike Water Tower is just the place to get a brief respite from stadium seating. What’s more, you can dip your toes (just your toes!) into the stream flowing throughout the area to cool off from the summer sun.

Let your inner calves play in The Bullpen.

The Bullpen boasts a fully-equipped game room for you and the family to play friendly games just a few steps away from the action. Sundays are especially fun, with free pinball and pool for visitors. Signature dishes are available for dine-in or take out, and may be enjoyed outside, where The Bullpen is also host to picnic tables and cornhole.

Get your Durham swag on.

You’ll probably arrive at ACC FanFest in the jersey or colors of your favorite team, but don’t leave without something with our city’s name on it. Durham Bulls official apparel is available at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, and just a couple of blocks up the street is Runaway Clothing, Durham’s apparel and lifestyle brand. Hats, socks, shorts, tees, you name it – Durham apparel is a timeless souvenir. (If you’re willing to venture a bit further past the outfield, Cotton Creek and Dolly’s Vintage also offer Durham-inspired apparel.)
